Disability – Access All Areas

The Disability Discrimination Act [DDA]

The Disability Discrimination Act aims to end the discrimination that many disabled people face. In this way it tries to ensure that disabled people can access the same opportunities as everyone else as a right not a favour.

The act gives disabled people rights in the areas of:

 bullet pointemployment
 bullet pointeducation
 bullet pointaccess to goods, facilities and services
 bullet pointbuying or renting land or property

The Act also:

 bullet pointrequires public bodies to promote equality of opportunity for disabled people
 bullet pointallows the government to set minimum standards so that disabled people can use public transport easily.

Somerset Total Communication – helps everybody to talk to each other in Somerset using a variety of methods. Call 01278 444949

Talking Bookswww.somerset.gov.uk/libraries - a service where you can borrow talking books from a local or mobile library. Available free if you are registered blind or partially sighted, have a physical disability (which prevents you from using printed books) or if you are dyslexic. Call 0845 345 9177.
