West Somerset youngsters making the most of Summer Activities on offer in Minehead!

minehead cfurtherA GROUP of young people from West Somerset have been making the most of Summer activities being offered in the town – and boosting their CV’s in the process.

Teenage information, advice and guidance service Connexions Somerset has been running a project aimed at helping 16 and 17-year-olds not currently in Education, Employment or Training gain valuable qualifications while looking for a job or waiting to go to college.

The C- Further programme offers the opportunity to gain valuable qualifications and skills such as First Aid and Manual Handling certificates.

Project Manager Ann Phillips said: “Not every young person knows what they want to do – if they want to go to college or look for a job.

“C- Further provides those young people who are still not sure which is the right path for them the opportunity to work towards the skills required to find employment or further training.

“Or those waiting to take up a college place in September the chance to gain some useful skills and qualifications over the Summer.”

Anyone getting involved in the project will be given the chance to work towards an ASDAN qualification in employability skills as well as attend workshops on topics such as Communication Skills, Health and Safety and Personal Development.

Ben Watkins, aged 17, who is currently taking part in the project said: “I have found the C- Further project really useful and I have learnt lots of new skills.

“It has really helped to build my confidence and I have also met lots of new people which is great as I have only recently moved to the area.”

The C- Further project takes place every Monday at the Connexions Centre which is based at the Vennland Centre, Vennland Way, Minehead.
