EXAM RESULTS? DON’T PANIC

Teams of experts will be on hand at centres throughout Somerset to help students plan their next move after they get their A and AS level results on Thursday (August 14).

Consultants from Connexions Somerset will be available at its centres in Bridgwater, Frome, Minehead, Wells, Taunton and Yeovil, to help students who, for whatever reason, may need to re-assess their options.

And in addition to this the Taunton Connexions Centre is extending its opening hours over the summer and from Thursday August 7th until Thursday September 4th will remain open until 6.30pm on Thursday evenings.

The message from Connexions Somerset is not to panic and be ready to explore all the possibilities.

Rachel Bendall, Chief Executive of Connexions Somerset, said: “Whether exam results are better than expected or you are disappointed with your results there are a wide range of opportunities to explore, many of which will provide both new and exciting options that you may not have previously considered.”

In a message to students, parents and carers, she said: “We have got all the up-to-date information and we are here to help.
“Talk to one of our Advisers, you have nothing to lose and potentially so much to gain.

“This could be a different course at the same university or elsewhere, an apprenticeship, a gap year, A levels or a spell doing useful voluntary work.

“There is still time for students to apply for university, including a wide range of university-level courses available at Somerset’s own further education colleges. “

Connexions Somerset, the advice, information and support service for young people ,will be working flat out to help students, and other young people who may need their guidance, in the coming weeks.

Help is free, accessible and confidential - and may even come from an adviser who has already helped the student at school or college.

Young people (and their parents and carers) can drop into a Connexions centre, make an appointment beforehand or visit www.connexions- somerset.org.uk.

And for those unable to get into one of the centres during the day, there is an out-of-hours telephone helpline 080 800 13 2 19 or they can text 077664 13 2 19 or access www.connexions-direct.com for a web chat or to send an e-mail.
