Youth Force does Ground Force
A GROUP of young people from Wells have been helping the elderly community in the city as part of a new project called Youth Force.
The youngsters, who are all part of an Entry to Employment (E2E) group set up by Somerset Skills and Learning, are hoping they can make a difference to the lives of the elderly in the city by offering to take on tasks they may find difficult.
The project is being run in Partnership with Careers Information, Advice and Guidance Service Connexions Somerset who offer free and impartial careers advice and guidance on a range of topics to young people aged 14-19.
Connexions Somerset Personal Adviser John Ray, who accompanies the young people on the project each week said: “The group wanted to do something positive for the local community and to show that young people can make a good contribution to society.
“ As well as lending a hand with tasks such as car washing and dog walking they are also lending a green finger or two by helping to maintain and transform the gardens of some of the city’s older residents for a couple of hours each week.”
If you live in the Wells area, are aged 14-19 and not currently in education, employment or training you can contact Connexions to find out what employment and training opportunities are available to you by visiting www.connexions-somerset.org.uk or E mail info@ connexions- somesret.org .uk. Alternatively you can call the Wells Connexions centre on 01749 686730 or visit the centre at The Old Glasshouse, South Street, Wells from Monday to Friday between 9.30am – 4.30pm.
