Moving On Competition Winner

NEWS he had won a prize in a competition aimed at Year 11 students across Somerset has come as music to the ears of one Taunton student.

Kyle Taylor, aged 16, who is a student at Ladymead Community School entered a competition organised by Connexions Somerset to find out young people’s views on its publication Moving On 2008.

Moving On 2008 is a publication aimed at providing Year 11 students across the county with information about the options available to them when they leave school.

They were asked to fill in a questionnaire about Moving On 2008 and return the form to Connexions Somerset for a chance to win an iPod Shuffle or a £30 music voucher.

Hundreds of pupils from across the county entered the competition and Kyle’s name was picked at random as one of three winners.

Kyle said: “I found Moving On 2008 really useful – particularly the section about employment and help.

“I am really pleased that I entered the competition and thrilled that I won a £30 music voucher!”

Connexions Somerset Information and Marketing Manager Mark Morris said: “Finding out what young people think of our publications is really important to us.

“We take all the comments that are made about the publication into consideration when looking at ways to improve it.

“But feedback suggests Moving On 2008 has been a huge hit with Year 11 students in Somerset with 97% of respondents saying Moving on 2008 was easy to use and 95% rating it as either very useful or useful.

“Over 80% of young people said that Moving On 2008 had made them more aware of the choices facing them.

“This publication coupled with the recently launched 14 – 19 Area Prospectus www.movingonmovingup.co.uk is providing Somerset young people with the key information they need to make the important decisions about their future career direction”.

Copies of Moving On 2008 were distributed to Year 11 pupils throughout Somerset, as well as to Connexions centres across the county.
