 bullet pointAdvanced Apprenticeship

Both incorporate the following elements:

bullet pointKey Skills – designed to increase learning and performance in core skills such as application of number, communication and problem solving by relating them to vocational areas.

Benefits to the employer

bullet pointAlleviating the skills shortfall that some industries are facing by training tomorrow’s staff today.
bullet pointMotivating staff by helping to reward their progression with tangible qualifications.
bullet pointIncrease their staff retention by using the regular review system to highlight and remedy training needs.
bullet pointMotivation is improved as NVQ’s clearly map progress made towards becoming skilled.

The Apprenticeship Partnership
The role of the employer
The employer is an integral part of the Apprenticeship partnership. Together with the Learning Provider and the Young Person, the employer will:

bullet pointIdentify a suitable occupational area to which the young person will become competent.
bullet pointIdentify a suitable level at which to start the training (Foundation or Advanced).
bullet pointProvide a safe working environment complying with current Health and Safety legislation.
bullet pointProvide the day-to-day learning towards becoming competent in the occupational area.
bullet pointRelease the young person for “off the job” training i.e. college day release, block release or time away from the shop floor.
bullet pointContribute towards the recruiting and the ongoing reviewing of the progress of the learner.
bullet pointCarry out other contractual elements such as remuneration.

The role of the learning provider
The Learning Provider does more than purely provide the tangible training. Their role includes:

bullet pointAccessing the funding from the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) to pay for the training.
bullet pointPlanning the training and the individual learning plan for the learner.
bullet pointAdministering the Apprenticeship start paperwork, drawing up agreements between themselves, the learner and the employer.
bullet pointProviding the theory or underpinning knowledge required for the Learner.
bullet pointEnsuring that national quality standards are met.
bullet pointHelping with portfolio construction and offering continuous support for the learner.
bullet pointInternal verifying, ensuring the portfolio is available for external verifying and finally obtaining certification.
