Survey of Careers Education and Guidance in Somerset
A survey of CEG provision in Somerset was undertaken in 2007/8 in maintained secondary schools. The purpose of the survey was to obtain information about the current practices in the planning, timetabling, delivery and evaluation of careers education and guidance in the county and to compare the results with a similar survey undertaken in 2005.
Overall, the results show there have been some improvements in CEG provision since 2005 but there are still some areas for development e.g the amount of time being allocated for CEG provision by the majority of schools is below the minimum times recommended by the DCSF and a lack of provision in years 7 & 8. In addition, not many schools regularly monitor, review and evaluate their CEG provision and so it is difficult for them to measure any progress made. Also, not all schools have clear learning outcomes specified for their CEG programme.
